| Trekking through the bamboo forest |
This was absolutley my favorite thing we did in Maui. On the other post I talked about how we tried to find this hike but were unsuccessful. This time we tried to follow the directions to a tee. We also looked up satilite image to help us and googled info. Well we entered the bamboo about 200 feet down from the last place we entered. This made all the difference. It was a trail that lead directly to a stream. The first waterfall was pretty dry, only a trickle so we kept going through the bamboo forest, over the river and rocks to the second waterfall. A perfect hawaiian waterfall. There was even a "naturalist" who decided to take her top off and bathe in the sun.

| Alyssa playing at 3rd falls with the locals =) |
The next fall was tricker to get to. We had to scale a 12 foot rock face with a 1 year old. There was a rope to hold on to, so we passed her up as we climbed up. The third fall was actually the coolest. A huge pool. We meet some locals playing in the water and they let Alyssa play on their float.
Then my mom watched Alyssa and Russ and I went to the 4th falls. This required us to climb up a latter then bolder hop up a stream. Then swim about 150 feet up a stream to a tiny waterfall that we had to climb up, the across more boulders which lead to the 4th falls. It is the highest of all the falls. It was a small flow but in pictures when the flow is large it is amazing. We also found a geo-cache. we just signed the book and didn't take anything. On the way back down we had to cliff jump off the waterfalls into the lake below to get back down. It was so fun! We don't have pictures of the 4th falls because of the swimming aspect. Of course while Mom and Dad were hiking Alyssa decided to pop. I did bring an extra diaper but no wipes. So I used a large left as a wipe and that was that. It made it a complete experience. Alyssa did very well on the hike and loved playing in the water. She kept wanting to get back in.
